Weill Cornell Medical College hosts world renowned faculty at the course "Keratoprosthesis: Advancements in Visual Rehabilitation"

Over 70 physicians from across the country attended the permanent keratoprosthesis course on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Weill Cornell faculty teamed with experts from across the country to review this revolutionary vision-saving treatment. Honored guests included Claes Dohlman, MD, PhD - the inventor of the Boston Permanent Keratoprosthesis - who gave the keynote lecture "The History and Future of Keratoprosthesis." Dr. Dohman was joined by James Chodosh, MD, PhD, Victor Perez, MD, Anthony Aldave, MD and James Aquavella, MD. The course was highlighted by a multidisciplinary panel of specialists, including experts in Retina, Glaucoma and Oculoplastics.

The internationally renowned faculty from Harvard, Bascom Palmer, Jules Stein, the University of Rochester and Weill Cornell discussed the indications for and treatment of complications of permanent keratoprosthesis. In addition, surgical techniques for successful implementation of the Boston KPro were reviewed. The course was sponsored by the Weill Cornell Department of Ophthalmology and was co-directed by Drs. Jessica Ciralsky and Szilard Kiss.
